This weekend saw Botafogo go top of the Brasileirão and the Paulista derby end in a draw. Paraná dropped to second place and Vasco drew with Fluminense.

Corinthians were happy with a point away from home to Santos but nearly managed three as Luxemburgo opted to rest key players ahead of their Copa Libertadores tie on Wednesday; both goals came from defenders in the 1-1 draw.

Zelão shot from inside the six-yard box as Santos Keeper Fabio Costa fumbled a corner in the first half while Marcelo headed home a free kick in the 77th to clinch a late equaliser and mark himself out as the first player to score against the Timão this season.

Grêmio, who face Santos in the Copa Libetadores, also chose to rest their star plays allowing Botafogo to win 3-0 at home and climb to the top of the table. Vasco could have clinched the top spot but could only manage a draw at the Maracaná with Fluminense on Sunday.

Struggling Palmeiras lost 3-1 at home to Cruzeiro and Roger Ceni totted up his 72nd career goal as he converted a penalty and led São Paulo to victory over Paraná on Sunday.

Internacional will be hoping to pick up their first point of the campaign as they play Náutico at the Beira-Rio tonight.

The results:

Figueirense/SC 2 x 1 Goiás/GO

Botafogo/RJ 3 x 0 Grêmio/RS

Atlético/MG 1 x 1 Atlético/PR

Palmeiras/SP 1 x 3 Cruzeiro/MG

Sport/PE 2 x 2 Flamengo/RJ

Santos/SP 1 x 1 Corinthians/SP
