Casemiro Sticks Up For Fernandinho In Wake of Criticism
Brazil midfielder Casemiro has come to the defence of teammate Fernandinho, whose performance against Belgium has come in for criticism. Casemiro was suspended for the 2-1 defeat to Belgium and replaced by Fernandinho.
But the Manchester City man scored an own goal and was easily dribbled around by Lukaku in the build-up the second goal. However, Casemiro thinks criticism of Fernandinho has been over the top. “He's a great player, he has all of our confidence, but that's football.
“It is unfortunate that he played in a defeat, but he has proved his quality in other games.” The Real Madrid man also spoke highly of coach Tite and says that his future should absolutely not be under consideration.
“He's a human face, an exceptional guy for us. From my part it is difficult to speak, because I only have good things to say about him. It is more than well-deserved and he is certainly doing a great job.”
The player says Brazil has their elimination in perspective, “The staff may even say that Brazil has to win always, but the balance is positive. Two years ago, Brazil was in serious danger of not even qualifying but now is a favourite. It is not the end of an era.”
