Brazil’s team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar is quietly confident that left-back Marcelo can recover in time for Monday’s World Cup last 16 tie against Mexico. Marcelo went off after 8 minutes of the Seleção’s 2-0 win voer Serbia on Wednesday.
The player had a violent back spasm and went off in some discomfort, replaced by Filipe Luis. But Brazil have not ruled him out of the Mexico game, saying the player is already much better.
"Marcelo had a back spasm but is already better. Now we have to wait a little, 48 hours or so, to see how he responds. It is possible [he can play against Mexico], there is not much time but we are optimistic.
"The injury happened during a play in the game, he made a rotation in his back and the muscles got caught." Brazil have already lost Danilo and Douglas Costa to injury during the tournament.
