Brazil winger Douglas Costa was delighted to come off the bench and contribute to the Seleção’s 2-0 victory over Costa Rica on Friday.

The Juve man came on as a half-time substitute for Willian and made a positive impact playing in an unfamiliar right-wing position.

“I found my entrance nice. I was able to find all the spaces that Tite asked me to. I'm happy to come in, to help, to show my football. After so much time away from the team to play at that level is cool.”

He was quick to brush off questions over whether he might start the game against Serbia in Moscow on Wednesday after Willian failed to impress.

“I do not see it like that. I see that we all deserve to play, regardless of whether or not we start. I am happy to come on or to start. All together we went through several scenarios before the World Cup.”
