Former Brazil striker Bebeto says that the loss of Dani Alves to injury is a huge blow for the Seleção as they look for their 6 th World Cup triumph in Russia this summer. The right-back has been ruled out with a knee injury.
Speaking to Brasil Global Tour, Bebeto says Alves will be a huge miss, “I think they will miss Dani Alves a lot,” he said. “The World Cup is such a difficult competition, you have to have experience, players who are already accustomed to playing on that stage and he is one of them.
“He has great experience, is a serial winner… I was sad to hear that he will not be able to play in what would have likely been his last World Cup.” Fágner and Danilo have been drafted in and will compete for the right-back spot in Alves’ absence.
“Danilo should start, because he's the closest to what Dani does,” said Bebeto, whose strike partnership with Romário was influential when Brazil won their 4 th World Cup in the USA in 1994.
