Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho says that he and his teammates will chase down record Premier League goals and points totals so that the team are “remembered for the next 100 years.”

City wrapped up the title a few weeks ago, but one more win and two more goals in their final three matches will see them break the record points and goals totals for the Premier League.

They’re landmarks that the Brazilian is motivated by, telling ESPN Brasil, “It's a fact, we have a clear chance to break those records and we have to go for it. Otherwise it doesn't make sense to play football any more.

"We have three games and have the chance to break most of the records and we're going to do that. It helps us to keep our performance and play the same way as we have all season.

"In 100 years it will be remembered that Manchester City in 2017-18 broke all those records and played amazing football.” City will receive the Premier League trophy on Sunday at home to Huddersfield.

Fernandinho sees it as the perfect time to confirm both records, “It would be a good time to do it, playing at home in front of our fans — they deserve it, they have supported us in difficult moments through the season and now deserve to celebrate the league title and the records.”
