Jurgen Klopp says he left Roberto Firmino out of his starting line-up against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday with an eye on Tuesday night’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Roma at Anfield.

The Reds allowed a two goal lead to slip in the final 12 minutes at Hawthorns, leading to questions around Klopp’s team selection, which saw Firnino start on the bench. But Klopp was unrepentant about his decision.

"We have the players available. Now we have Alberto [Moreno], we have Ragnar [Klavan], we have [Danny] Ingsy – and that helps us a lot," Klopp told Sky Sports.

"That’s what we did during the season when we could – we changed the team from time to time, we rotated a little bit and brought in really fresh legs.

"OK, we had a normal week but at the beginning of the week one or two players had a few issues. So pretty early in the week it was clear I wanted to choose that line-up."
