Guardiola Has ‘No Reason To Doubt’ Gabriel Jesus for Liverpool Clash
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says he has no reason to doubt Gabriel Jesus, despite his tender years as City prepare for a Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night.
The 21-year old will lead the line with Sergio Aguero injured, but the City boss has no doubts over Jesus’ big game aptitude, despite having never played in a Champions League knockout fixture before.
“Physically, today (Tuesday, 3) is his birthday, he turned 21 only, so he's not tired,” Guardiola joked. Gabriel Jesus has never played the Champions League quarter-finals in his life and is here. Why should I doubt him if he played well in other times in the season?
“And if he does not play well, it will be a learning curve for the future.” City travel to Liverpool on Wednesday evening, with the second leg at the Etihad Arena next Tuesday to decide who goes through to the semi-finals.
