Brazil coach Tite says that his side’s 1-0 win over Germany in Berlon on Tuesday night will
not lay the ghosts of 2014 to rest- but it will give the Seleção a crucial boost in their self-
esteem.
It was the first meeting of the sides since the infamous World Cup semi-final in 2014, which
Germany won 7-1 in Belo Horizonte. Tite knows this friendly victory won’t curtail discussion
of that fateful day.
“The ghost was there. I even felt some inhibition in you (reporters) to talk about the previous
result, it was embarrassing. It's going to be spoken about, that’s life and it's not because we
win today that it will stop being talked about.
“The victory brings a sense a bit of self-esteem. It brings pride.” Tite was impressed by how
his team dealt with the threat of Germany in the second half, his team have only conceded 5
goals since he took over in September 2016.
“The aggressiveness of Germany’s passing was impressive, with the front men, the wings
and creative players. That impressed me. In the interval, we spoke about not getting tired
out.”
