Brazil midfielder Philippe Coutinho is relishing Tuesday’s friendly match against Germany in Berlin. It is the first time the sides have met since the infamous 2014 World Cup semi-final, when Germany defeated the Seleção 7-1 on home soil.

Coutinho was not a part of that Brazil squad, but he says that Tuesday’s match in Berlin will provide stern preparation for the squad, as they continue to plan for this summer’s World Cup in Russia. “Germany will be a great game, but it will be a difficult game,” Coutinho said. This will be a match to watch for.

“We have to prepare to make a great match. The Seleção, no matter the opponent will always play our style, of course every opponent you have a way to play, a way to pierce the defence and that is what the coach will tell us.”

Coutinho scored a penalty in Brazil’s 3-0 win over Russia in Moscow on Friday, a match where Coutinho played in a slightly deeper central midfield role, with Chelsea winger Willian taking his usual spot on the right hand side.

“We try to play as fast as possible. I had already played in that position before and the collective is the most important. The staff here give us the tranquility of trying to attack together, the collective has been the our strength.”
