Coutinho Worked ‘Extra Hard’ To Show Dedication to Liverpool
Barcelona forward Philippe Coutinho says that he felt obliged to show maximum dedicationto Liverpool in the first part of this season, after his move to Barcelona failed to materialise inthe summer.
The Brazilian put in a transfer request and was open about his desire to leave for theCatalan club, but the Reds’ initially rejected Barca’s advances. The move eventually wentthrough in January.
But Coutinho says he felt dutibound to show even more effort for Liverpool to show the fansthat he was not prepared to be unprofessional to force the move, “I was clear from the firstoffer from Barca that I wanted to come here, that was my intention,” he told El MundoDeportivo
“When it did not go through in the summer, I had to work extra hard with more hours to showthe fans that I was not being unprofessional. It was not an easy situation for me of coursebut the fans of Liverpool treated me well, even if I could not win any trophies at the club.
“Since my move, the welcome from the players has been fantastic but particularly Messi andSuarez, who are two idols for me. It is special to play in the same team as Messi, it makesme extremely happy.”
