Tite Urges Neymar to Ignore ‘Envious’ Detractors and Reveals Referee Advice
Brazil coach Tite has revealed that he has urged Neymar to ignore ‘envious’ detractors. TheBrazilian moved to Paris Saint Germain from Barcelona in a world record £198m transfer lastsummer.
Neymar is seen as the star for PSG and Brazil, but has often earned opprobrium for hisattitude. Brazil coach Tite says this is a natural consequence of being a top level athlete, something he relayed to Neymar during his time coaching the forward.
“I had the happiness of working with Neymar now and I will repeat what I said: he is a boywho has a big heart. Only those who work with him know. I'm working here now and that'swhy I'm talking.
“And I'm not talking after a year and a half of taking over the Seleção, needing to givemorale to the guy. I'm being conscientious. I once told him, "Neymar, when you take aposition at the highest level, there will be people who will love and idolize you,
“’You will have that responsibility. But you will have the envious, those people that will look ateach situation and take the negative side.” However, Tite implied that the criticism was notentirely misplaced.
“It does not mean that successes and mistakes do not happen, for example, to complainabout referees too much. I called him and said, "It's wrong, you cannot do that, you have tobe mentally strong." Leave the referee and leave the opponent.
“’With all your talent, if you complain about the refereeing, you know what the guys aredoing. They will see that you complained and the guy who fouled you will see that it workedand the referee will not give you the next call either.”
