Edu Gaspar Says Germany Friendly Will Help 7-1 Scar Heal Before World Cup
Brazil’s director of Selection, Edu Gaspar, says that Brazil want to face Germany before theWorld Cup as part of the healing process after the infamous 7-1 defeat to Die Mannschaft onhome soil in the 2014 World Cup semi-final.
The result reverberated deeply in Brazil and Edu has explained that part of the purpose ofmeeting Germany in a friendly in Berlin in March is to aid the healing process prior to thissummer’s World Cup in Russia.
“We cannot deny what happened. The scar exists and will always exist. It is a reality ofhistory. Ever since this new commission arrived, we wanted to take on Germany before theWorld Cup, so that the press and ourselves can talk about the 7 x 1,” he told Reuters.
The Ex-Arsenal midfielder also says that the Seleção refuse to talk up their chances ofwinning the tournament, “We do not bother to speak about the title in Russia. We expect tohave great performance,” he said.
