David Neres Says International Call Up Is “A Little Distant” For Him
Ajax attacker David Neres says he does not believe he will be able to break into the Brazilsquad for the 2018 World Cup. Neres is in very good form, but acknowledges that thecompetition ahead of him is strong.
He scored in Ajax’s 3-1 win over NAC Breda on Sunday. Speaking after the game, Nerestold Globoesporte, “Now I think I have to improve at my club and win some titles. This is mygoal at the moment.
“I still see the Seleção as a slightly distant dream; the players in my position are at a veryhigh level and I am still a young player that is improving. I will continue to work and one day,hopefully I will be there,” he said.
Neres joined Ajax from São Paulo a year ago and says he feels more settled now havingstarted the season with the team, “It was good to start the season with the team. Lastseason I arrived half way through and it is difficult to come in late.
“I was on the bench sometimes and I had some good games when I had an opportunity andnow I am improving with every game and every training session.” Neres turns 21 in March.
