Holgate and Firmino Interviewed by FA in Racism Investigation
According to ESPN, The Football Association's disciplinary unit has interviewed Evertondefender Mason Holgate and Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino as part of the investigationinto alleged racism during the recent Merseyside derby at Anfield.
Everton defender Holgate appeared to shove Firmino into the advertising hoardings as theball trickled out of play, prompting an angry response from the Brazilian, where heapproached Holgate and yelled at him.
The FA is investigating claims by Holgate that he was racially abused by Firmino after theallegation was included in match referee Bobby Madley’s match report, triggering aninvrstigation.
ESPN say Firmino and Holgate have both been interviewed as part of the enquiry, alongwith other key witnesses. No timescale has been put on the investigation at this stage, withthe FA preferring a considered decision to a swift one.
An FA statement, issued earlier this month, said: "The FA can confirm that referee BobbyMadley was made aware of an allegation during the Liverpool versus Everton game atAnfield last night and has subsequently reported this to The FA, which will now begin makingenquiries into the matter."
