Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino is delighted with the club’s £75m acquisition of Virgil van
Dijk from Southampton. The Reds wrapped up a deal for the Southampton centre half
shortly before the January transfer window opened.
Liverpool tried to bring the Dutch defender to the club during the summer, but Southampton
held firm initially. But Jurgen Klopp persisted through the winter and the Brazilian forward is
delighted the manager finally got his man.
“I think in addition to the fact he’s very physical, it’s his presence. He’s tall, he’s very strong
and that’s in addition to his innate ability,” Firmino explained.
“I just hope he helps us as much as possible. I think like everybody else who comes in, they
add something to the group and I hope that he can also do that and bring something to the
team himself.”
