Barcelona midfielder Paulinho insists that he does not have anything to prove, after making an impressive start to life at Barcelona. The Brazilian signed for the club this summer to some shock having spent two years in the Chinese Super League.

Many questioned the fee and the acquisition, but Paulinho has become a key part of a Barca side that holds a comfortable lead at the top of the La Liga standings. But the ex-Spurs man doesn’t see his form as any sort of vindication or shot at his critics.

The 29-year old told the Guardian, “They told me that I’m silencing criticism, but I do not see it that way. I do not have to prove anything to anyone. I play for my team and for my team mates, “he explained.

“People have always spoken and will always speak. Today they say: ‘He’s only good because he’s in Barcelona.’ They used to say, ‘He’s only good because he’s in China’ and blah-blah-blah. When I left Bragantino and went to Corinthians there was the same thing.

“If someone had told me that one day I would play a World Cup and Barcelona, I would not believe it.”
