Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was cagey when pressed on his relationship with defender David Luiz prior to this weekend’s 4-0 win over West Brom.

Luiz was dropped for Chelsea’s previous match- a 1-0 win over Manchester United- in favour of young centre half Andreas Christiansen. Luiz was not on the bench for that match.

He was an unused substitute on Saturday, amid rumours that Luiz has fallen out with Blues boss Conte. But the Italian manager refused to elaborate on the matter.

"I repeat, it was a technical decision. When it"s a technical decision, every single player has to react well and accept my decision. It"s normal, this.

"I think that I stay here to speak for the team before an important game against West Bromwich, and not to speak about one single player. I don"t like that.

“I like to speak about the team and the next game that we have to pay great attention to. This is the most important thing."

Conte praised Christiansen, who has been drafted in ahead of the Brazilian, "Last season I didn"t have this opportunity [to rotate Luiz].

"This season, with Christensen, I have another opportunity, another really good opportunity, because Christensen is showing himself to be an important player for us.

“For sure, he"s only 21 years old, but he"s playing with great maturity. I hope to continue to improve in this way."
