Brazil midfielder Fernandinho was pleased with the Seleção’s performance in their 3-1 win over Japan in Lille on Friday. The Manchester City man started in central midfield as the 5 time World Champions eased to victory over Japan.

Fernandinho says the team are aware that preparation for next summer is well under way with these fixtures, “The Copa has already begun. This all serves the preparation and we deserved the result.

“First we impose our rhythm of play, we score three goals. For me, it’s important to play differently. In the second half, we kept the same level, we just did not score any more.

“Some players played their first matches with the Seleção, before they were not playing. We are progressing, growing and on the right path.”

Real Madrid left-back Marcelo was on the scoresheet, notching the second goal with a fierce right foot shot and he was equally satisfied with the team’s performance.

“The game was very good. We know the World Cup is close, as Tite has pointed out. It is to play good games, stand out and do what the coach asks for. I already scored a goal for Real Madrid with my right foot, but I’m always happy to score.”
