Fenerbache midfielder Guiliano is relishing the fight for places in the Brazil squad for next summer’s World Cup. Guiliano’s parent club Zenit St. Petersburg are based in Russia, where the World Cup will be staged.
The midfielder was left out of the squad for October qualifiers, but has otherwise been a staple member of Tite’s squad- albeit as a bit part player. But Guiliano says he is relishing the competition for places.
“It is a very busy squad, each player is seeking a space. There are great players fighting over these positions and everyone wants to participate. We are privileged to be part of that moment, we have to deliver everything we have and give our best so that we are recognized.”
The player says he has used his omission from the October squad as motivation, “It was a bad feeling not to be in, but, on the other hand, it was a reminder not to enter the comfort zone. I used that as a motivation, to work harder, to dedicate more.”
Guiliano also says the squad has been in World Cup preparation mode since confirming qualification in March, “Since we qualified, the spirit was already about looking to the World Cup, to prepare with a greater responsibility.
“We are very well prepared and we demonstrate this with every game. Our team has played well, we have to go in that spirit to the World Cup. We will use these games to gain confidence, solidity and to win as a group.”
