Napoli players Jorginho and Allan admit that they are still hopeful of earning places in Tite’s Brazil squad, but admit it will be “difficult” with a large number of places in the squad now well established.

The pair want to be considered for World Cup selection and Seleção co-ordinator Edu Gaspar met with Jorginho recently, who is also eligible to play for Italy. Both have played a crucial part in Napoli’s rise to the top of Serie A.

Following their weekend win over Sassuolo, Allan said, “We had a great game and now we must keep going like this. Jorginho and I for Brazil? We hope so, even if it’s a bit difficult, and I don’t know why that is.

“We’re trying to do well for Napoli. If the call-up comes, great, but if it doesn’t then it’s important that we do well with our club.”

Jorginho was born in Brazil, but moved to Italy at the age of 15 and has Italian citizenship because his grandparents are Italian. He has yet to be capped for either nation.
