Huerelho Gomes says that he and his Watford teammates are feeling the frustration of a second successive defeat, with the Hornets falling to a surprise 1-0 home defeat to struggling Stoke City.

Watford were unfortunate to lose at Stamford Bridge last weekend, but on this occasion, they struggled to break down a dogged Potters resistance.

“We wasted the first half, we created nothing,” Gomes told Watford.com. “We played a totally different game compared to what we are used to.

“Maybe we didn’t expect them to sit back that much, we expected them to be more open. They just put 11 men behind the ball and that made it difficult for us.

“Maybe this is a lesson to play against a team like this, because they knew that if they gave us space we can cause them damage. But in the end, we were very frustrated.

“We created chances as well. We had clear opportunities to get a minimum of one point. Even before their goal, they were playing defensively. It is clear they had a game plan.”
