Neymar says that he wants to act as a mentor for teenage sensation and teammate Kylian Mbappe- much in the way that Lionel Messi did for him when he first arrived at Barcelona.

Mbappe became the top scoring teenager in the Champions League this week, having now scored eight goals in the competition. He and Neymar have already struck up a frightening understanding.

The Brazilian says he wants to help develop the 19 year old, much in the way that Messi did for him when he arrived at Barcelona from Santos in 2013.

“I’d like to act with Mbappé like Messi acted with me,” he said to the Brazilian TV. “I want to help him. He’s my buddy.”

The comments offer an interesting contrast to an interview given by fellow forward Edinson Cavani this week, who insisted he and Neymar do not need to be good friends to play together.

“We must find the solution together and function as a team. We need to be a competitive team, but we do not need to be friends. You have to be professional, and afterwards everyone has their own life,” said the Uruguayan forward.
