Brazil coach Tite is pleased with how his Brazil side are shaping up ahead of next summer’s World Cup and admits that his side have to be considered among the favourites for Russia 2018, after winning 10 and drawing 2 of the qualifiers he has overseen.

The Seleção finished qualifying with a 3-0 win over Chile in São Paulo last night and the coach is already sizing up next summer’s opposition, “We are a favourite. By the football we’ve played, the campaign we produced, by level, performance plus result .

“We are one of the teams, yes. I have said that France is at a very strong level. Rising players like Mbappé, Lacazette, Griezmann. Look at the offensive trio. And there is Germany, who maintains a core.

Tite defended his decision not to experiment with his lune-up, despite top spot in the CONMEBOL ranking being sewn up, “We have to measure the opposition. I did not have time. I would have tried a number of other players, but I could not.”

But Tite would not be drawn into grandiose claims of winning a 6th title in Russia, “I do not know if we will win, I will not promise. I’m not a demagogue, but I’ll tell you one thing: the football that the team is playing makes me happy.

“Because it is an idea of football I like, to exchange vertical passes. Because it’s the school I know: from Telê, from Ênio Andrade, who is from Parreira, from Zagallo.”
