Brazil pair Miranda and Gabriel Jesus say that Argentina’s World Cup qualifying predicament will not enter their minds when they face Chile on Tuesday evening. A Chile win would leave Brazil’s bitter rivals in big trouble with regards to World Cup qualification.

This has led to suggestions that Brazil, who are already qualified, could be tempted to intentionally lose to Chile. But Miranda and Gabriel Jesus have rubbished such suggestions.

Miranda told a press conference, “When Brazil was in danger of missing Russia, no one helped us so we won’t help anyone. Others should qualify in their own merit.

“With the Seleção, you have the obligation to win every game, and you have to do everything it takes to win. I would rather get a red card and miss the World Cup opener, than let a Chilean score against Brazil on Tuesday.”

Jesus redoubled the sentiment, “Do I want Argentina to qualify? If we’ve qualified, it’s our merit. If they qualify or don’t, it will also be their merit or not.

“Messi is one of the best players and Argentina are a big team, but we only think about ourselves. If it was up to me, the World Cup would start tomorrow.”
