Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that the club will soon open discussions with Fernandinho over a new contract.
The 32 year old is out of contract at the end of this season, but is still a key member of Guardiola’s team, performing in a number of different positions.
Guardiola revealed that he would like to keep the Brazilian on beyond this season, “The transfer market has finished, but clubs are always updating and working.
“Of course there are players I think the club want to renew. One, of course, is Fernandinho. And the other ones.
“The club never stops. It doesn’t end on September 1. It’s always every day, looking at the situation and the future, the short-term and the long-term.”
The player joined City from Shakhtar Donetsk for £30m in the summer of 2013 and has won a Premier League title and two League Cups since arriving.
