Real Madrid left-back Marcelo will miss Brazil’s October World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Chile. The player pulled his hamstring in Madrid’s 1-0 defeat to Real Betis on Wednesday evening.

Filipe Luis will likely play in his place, but it remains to be seen whether coach Tite calls up a replacement. Juventus’ Alex Sandro would be the most likely candidate were he to do so.

Brazil are already guaranteed top spot in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying group in any case and Tite will welcome the chance to experiment a little- especially with a game in tough conditions in La Paz.

Brazil play away at Bolivia on 5th October, before rounding off their qualification group with a home game against Chile on 10th October at Palmeiras’ Allianz Parque.
