Atletico Madrid Agree Deal for Diego Costa
Atletico Madrid have finally come to an agreement over the transfer of Diego Costa from Chelsea. Costa will return to the club that he left for Chelsea back in the summer of 2014 for a deal thought to be worth around £50m.
Costa wanted to move back to Atletico last summer and also agitated for a move to China in January. Blues boss Antonio Conte persuaded the player to stay and clinch the Premier League title, before telling him in May that he was no longer wanted.
The striker was upset that this message was delivered to him by text and has been on strike back in Brazil ever since. A move could not be finalised during the summer with stumbling blocks over valuation and the fact that Atleti are under a transfer ban until January.
However, a deal has now been brokered between the clubs and Costa will join Atletico on 1st January. A short statement on the Chelsea website read, “Chelsea Football Club has today agreed terms with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Diego Costa.
“The transfer will be subject to the agreement of personal terms and a medical.”
