Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has questioned the incident surrounding David Luiz’s sending off in Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

The Brazilian was given his marching orders in the 87th minute of the stalemate between the two sides, after a high tackle on Gunners’ left-back Sead Kolasinac.

Conte thinks there was a foul in the build-up to Luiz’s tackle which ought to have been awarded, “It’s very important to see what happened before the David Luiz tackle. For sure there was a foul.”

Luiz was challenged by Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, before the Blues defender went into the tackle with Kolasinac. It’s Chelsea’s third consecutive red card against Arsenal.

“The referee has to use the whistle. If he stops the play before I think it (wouldn’t) happen. I hope to be more lucky with the referee’s decision, for us and also for the opponent. Sometimes the opponent deserves a red card and instead they continue to play with 11 men.”

Luiz will serve a 3 match ban, effective from Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash with Nottingham Forest.
