Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger agreed with the decision of referee Michael Oliver to send Chelsea’s David Luiz off during Sunday’s 0-0 draw between Chelsea and Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

The Brazilian was given his marching orders in the 87th minute for a high tackle on Sead Kolasinac. Luiz had already been booked, but referee Oliver opted to show a straight red, which will see the Chelsea defender suspended for 3 matches.

Wenger, who saw the tackle up close next to the away dugout, supported Oliver’s call, “It was excessive force, yes. I think Kolasinac was not completely on his feet,” Wenger said.

“Even Luiz will accept there was a big distance and he went in too strong.” Arsenal could not capitalise on the man advantage in the final minutes and the Gunners were left to settle for a creditable 0-0 draw.
