But Tite insists the player’s ease with the pressure of playing for the Seleção formed a big part of the coach’s decision, "Diego started the season very well, he was very good. He has this great ability.

"It [the decision] was a whole past, he wears the shirt of Brazil and feels comfortable, it does not get heavy, does not inhibit."

Diego was delighted with the call, telling ESPN Brasil, "I always put my goal to be in the national team, to play in the World Cup. It means that momentarily my goal is fulfilled. I thought I had a chance, yes. Tite has been talking about the collective a lot, it"s a huge motivation."
