Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno says it was a tough summer for Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian submitted a transfer request in light of repeat bids from Barcelona for his services, but Liverpool held firm and retained the player.

Coutinho is in line to play for the club for the first time this season in their Champions League opener against Sevilla. Moreno insists it has been a tough time for Coutinho, as he looks to reintegrate into the fold.

“I missed him, he’s probably my best friend at the club. I was very happy to have him back. It was tough for him. He had a bad time but it’s over now and I know that he will give everything for Liverpool.

“It would be a dream for any team to have him but he stays with us. Liverpool said no and it meant no. It’s just a huge boost. We have a lot of quality here now.”
