Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is hopeful that goalkeeper Ederson has not broken any bones after a sickening collision with Liverpool’s Sadio Mane on Saturday. Mane was sent off after accidentally catching the Brazilian in the face with his studs.

Ederson was treated for a period of about 8 minutes for the facial injury and was replaced by Claudio Bravo. But Guardiola is positive that the initial prognosis is good and that Ederson will not need to miss many games.

“I think it has not broken the bone. That is so important. He will be more beautiful after that. Hopefully he can come back as soon as possible.

“Of course it was not intentional from Mane. He didn’t see him but the impact was hard. Hopefully he can work and stay. Maybe he will not play in the next game.”

Ederson was concussed, but did not need to be taken to hospital and even reappeared in the dugout for the final minutes of City’s 5-0 win over the Reds.
