Marquinhos ‘Tite Says the World Cup Has Already Begun’
Brazil defender Marquinhos says that preparation has already begun for next summer’s World Cup. The Seleção are guaranteed top spot in qualification with three games to spare, ahead of their meeting with Colombia in Barranquilla on Tuesday.
The PSG defender says that coach Tite is telling his players that the World Cup campaign is already under way, “Tite has his feet on the ground, he knows to live today, but analyse and prepare for tomorrow. He says that the World Cup has already begun.
“Now we have to play and compete looking at the World Cup, to get prepared. If it is not the most difficult tournament, it is one of the most. Our goal is to win the Cup, we have to be always prepared, seeking progress and team cohesion.
Brazil conducted an open training session in Manaus before flying to Barranquilla on Monday. The city is renowned for its humid climate- as Manaus is, “It was a strategic stop here,” Marquinhos explained.
“In the south we might find heat, cold, here is a more stable and similar climate to Colombia and we are training at the time of the game. That's what we came here for in Manaus.”
Tite looks set to make some changes, with Roberto Firmino set to start upfront and Filipe Luis and Thiago Silva deputising for the injured João Miranda and the suspended Marcelo. But Marquinhos says Tite has yet to confirm the line-up to the players.
“He has not talked about the lineup yet. It may be an idea of what he wants, but there is still no confirmation. We have to wait to see if this is s test or something that he is thinking of using later on.”
