Paris Saint Germain defender Marquinhos is excited for the French club’s project this year, but realises that the Ligue 1 club need to glue quickly on the pitch. The French club spent close to £400m on Brazilian forward Neymar and French prodigy Kylian Mbappe this summer.
Speaking ahead of Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Colombia, Marquinhos says he is excited for the growth of the Parisian club, "The promise in the market, with player purchases, the club managed to deliver.
"Now we have to give the answer on the field, to show that the team can go far. This is the PSG project. We will have this year of adaptation for the reinforcements and with a maintained base. With these arrivals, the club grows, the instution grows, Paris grows.
"Today we see the mixed zone more crowded, the most requested stores. The team has gained another dimension. We have to give the answer on the field now." Marquinhos is set to partner his PSG teammate Thiago Silva at the heart of Brazil’s defence on Tuesday.
With Dani Alves, Neymar and Lucas Moura also at the club, Marquinhos admits this is an advantage for the national team, "The partnership that we have in the club, we can put into practice in the National Team. Let"s try to use it the best way.
"There are some changes that were not expected, one for injury [Miranda] and another for suspension [Marcelo]. As we always emphasize, we want to put into practice the standard of play regardless of the players going to the pitch.
"Tite asks us to do good work on both. I do not see much difference between Miranda and Thiago Silva. They are the same ideas, the same styles."
