Brazil defender Marquinhos insists the team are not worried about the prospect of Neymar coming in for rough treatment when Brazil face Colombia in Barranquilla on Tuesday evening.

Games between the teams have been physical affairs in recent years, with Neymar often in the eye of the storm. He was famously injured by an industrial challenge in the 2014 World Cup quarter final and the player was sent off against Colombia at the 2015 Copa America following a number of flashpoints.

But Marquinhos says Brazil are unconcerned about the prospect of Neymar being rotationally fouled, “Neymar is very focused on the field, it can be the opponents’ strategy. But he is also a trickster, knows how to suffer the foul and continue with personality.

“We have no concern for violence. There are plenty of people to take care of it. Our staff, the referee. Even TV these days. It is more tranquil. We just do our best. The best answer is to always seek the goal and try to be dangerous.”

Marquinhos also confirmed that the team do not yet know who the captain will be on Tuesday evening. Tite has a policy of rotating the armband game to game. On Thursday it was Marcelo, but the Madrid left-back is suspended for Tuesday.

“It’s not a subject we discussed. We think about doing our work on the field, everyone is a leader and an important one. Tite likes to do this rotation for everyone if they feel like this, to know what it’s like to perform the role. The person he chooses will be the best person.”
