50 Cap Filipe Luis Hopes to ‘Put Pressure’ on Marcelo
Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis commemorates his 50th call up to the Brazil squad and he ha snot given up on the prospect of making the left-back slot his own. Luis is currently second choice behind Real Madrid rival Marcelo.
“Marcelo is the first choice, my goal is to put pressure on him,” he told Folha de São Paulo. “I want to be available to, when the coach needs me, to be ready.
“I want to give the coach a headache, be at my best at the club so he can look at the group and say "I have two left-backs and whoever I put in is fine."
Luis relayed his pride at his 50th call for his country, “Every time we get called up, we get an information sheet with the number of call ups, minutes played, so I always know”
“It's an important number. It's not easy in the best national team in the world 50 times, I feel very proud if I can get that cap here.”
Luis is in the squad for Thursday night’s match with Ecuador in Porto Alegre and Tuesday evening’s clash with Colombia in Barranquilla.
