Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has moved to ease fears that his relationship has broken down with key player Philippe Coutinho, despite the fact that the Brazilian has submitted a written transfer request.

Barcelona have made 3 bids for the player already this summer, all of which Liverpool have rejected. Coutinho has yet to appear for the club this season, due to a back injury. Klopp now says that the player is unwell and won’t return for crunch matches with Hoffenheim and Arsenal this month.

However, the German coach insists there is no problem between him and the player, “Of course, everything is okay between me and him,” Klopp said. “Absolutely, 100 per cent. I never give any comment to whatever’s written or said but it’s 100 per cent clear that nothing’s changed.”

Coutinho will not line up in the second leg of Liverpool’s Champions League qualifier with Hoffenheim tonight, “He can’t start because on top of that (injury) he’s now ill.

“It will take time because he has not trained for a long time. I’ve no idea at this moment (when he will return), we would have to check when he is back.”
