Brazilian midfielder Paulinho was officially unveiled as a Barcelona player today, following his €40m move from Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande. The player gave his first press conference as a Barca player.
The Brazilian, who has also played for Corinthians and Tottenham Hotspur, was keen to avoid comparisons with his midfield partner at international level, Casemiro, who has been a revelation at Barca’s rivals Real Madrid.
“We play different positions,” Paulinho explained, “Casemiro is in a fixed position. I play more advanced, but it’s like I said: I’m prepared to play the role that the coach chooses for me.
“I want to play soon, I have spent a few days just training and now I want to play and I will do it in the best way possible. I think I can adapt to the style of the club. The team has a DNA and I’m convinced I can play here.”
Paulinho, who scored a hat-trick for Brazil against Uruguay in March, is also relishing calling Luis Suarez a teammate, “It’s gratifying for me to look at my teammates I have at Barcelona and who I can play alongside. I’ll do my best in matches.”
