Coutinho Hands In Transfer Request
Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho has stunned the club by handing in a formal transfer request. The player has been subject to two bids from Barcelona this summer, the latest one for £90m, both of which have been rejected.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been unrepentant all summer about the player’s future, insisting that he is not for sale at any price. Following Barca’s latest approach, Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, released a short statement insisting the player was not for sale.
The statement was published on Friday morning. By noon, the player had submitted a formal transfer request in order to push through a move to Barca, who see the player as part of their plan to replace Neymar, who joined Paris Saint Germain last week.
Coutinho is unavailable for Saturday’s Premier League opener against Watford due to a back injury and he is also a doubt for the Champions League qualifier against Hoffenheim on Tuesday. Liverpool still insist they will not sell the wantaway Brazilian.
