Valencia Track Arsenal Defender Gabriel
La Liga club Valencia are said to be tracking Arsenal’s Brazilian centre half Gabriel. Gabriel joined the Gunners from Villarreal in January 2015, but has yet to nail down a starting place at the North London club.
The Gunners have a bloated squad and are looking to offload some players before they can buy again. With Per Mertesacker fit again and Calum Chambers back from a loan spell at Middlesbrough, Valencia are set to test the Gunners’ mettle with a £10m bid.
Valencia coach Marcelino admitted interest in the Brazilian this week, saying, “I think it is possible. We’re talking about important players who already know our league, speak Spanish and that’s important, so the adaptation would be very quick.”
Gabriel is currently recovering from a knee injury, but the emergence of Rob Holding has potentially pushed him further down the Arsenal pecking order. With two years left on his contract, now might be an opportune time to sell.
