Barcelona to Make £120m Bid for Philippe Coutinho
Barcelona are set to make a third bid for Liverpool attacker Philippe Coutinho this week, worth in the region of £120m according to the Daily Star. The Catalans have already had approaches of £70m and £100m turned down this summer.
Having sold Neymar to Paris Saint Germain for £198m last week, the La Liga giants have the funds necessary to escalate their bid and plan to do just that according to a report in the English newspaper.
Liverpool still firmly insist that the player is not for sale at any price and the player is understood not to have made any sort of formal transfer request, but Barca remain undeterred and will make another approach to help fill the gap left by Neymar’s shock departure.
Barca have also revealed that they are not obliged to pay a loyalty clause in Neymar’s contract for remaining at the club after 31st July. A Nou Camp spokesman said “There were conditions, such as the player must not negotiate his departure during the month before the bonus became payable.”
