‘Anyone That Plays Next To Messi Will Be Second’ Says Neymar
Neymar has admitted that any player that plays alongside Lionel Messi is going to be in the Argentine’s shadow. The Brazilian left Barcelona for Paris Saint Germain this week in a world record £198m transfer.
Stepping out of Messi’s shadow is rumoured to be one of the main reasons for Neymar leaving and the PSG man admits that he had little chance of being the main man at Barcelona whilst the imperious Messi is still playing.
“The decision was difficult to take, I was thinking about it for the last month,” Neymar told BBC Sport, “My heart told me I had to follow it. I took the right decision and I am very happy to be here now.”
On the subject of Messi, Neymar explained, “Any player playing next to Messi will always be second. Messi is, for me, is the greatest and I respect him, I admire him and it was an honour to play next to him for the last four years.
“But I didn’t come over here to be the star. I came here because I had a challenge presented by the club to conquer and challenge for titles and that’s the reason why I am happy and excited to have taken this decision and embrace this new challenge.”
