Neymar Pleads for Respect from Barca Fans
Neymar Junior sealed his world record move to Paris Saint Germain this week and asked fans of his previous club Barcelona to respect his decision. The player left the Nou Camp, sealing a £198m move on Thursday.
The Brazilian is set to earn around £500,000 a week and says he has treated his old club with due respect, “I have a lot of respect for Barcelona manager Valverde, he was the first I informed. But I am very happy after this decision.
“I'm sure that God has prepared great things for me to come. Not in any moment, I have lacked respect to Barcelona. But their fans have to understand that every player has his freedom. Every player has the right to decide to leave or stay.”
The move has drawn comparisons with Luis Figo’s controversial 2000 transfer from Barcelona to Real Madrid. But Neymar refuted the parallel, “It's sad that people disrespect him. Every player has the right to make decisions.”
