Gilberto Silva Reminisces Over ‘Amazing’ Arsenal Move
Ex Arsenal midfielder and 2002 World Cup winner Gilberto Silva reminisced over his decision to join Arsenal from Atlético Mineiro in 2002, describing his time in North London as “amazing.”
The Brazilian revealed that he had offers from Germany and Turkey, but opted for Arsenal, where he spent six years, winning three FA Cups and a league title unbeaten. Gilberto joined the Gunners shortly after playing the entirety of Brazil’s World Cup winning campaign in Japan and South Korea.
“After the World Cup, when it happened, I got a phone call from my club saying that they had a few proposals for me to move,” he told Arsemal.com, whilst on tour with the club in China in an ambassadorial capacity.
“At the time, it was between Arsenal, a German club and a Turkish club. I found out a bit of information about the three of them and made my decision to go to Arsenal. It was the best choice for me at that time and I had six fantastic years at the club. It was amazing.”
