Paris Saint Germain’s new right-back Dani Alves has apologised to Manchester City, after rebuffing their advances and opting to join Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain instead.

The 33-year old severed his contract with Juventus last month just 1 year after joining them from Barcelona. Alves looked all set to be reunited with old boss Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

With a deal thought to be a formality, Alves has instead joined PSG, reportedly his wife’s desire to live in Paris was a determining factor. At his unveiling press conference in Paris, the Brazilian was contrite about suggestions that he had misled City and Guardiola.

“If Pep Guardiola and Manchester City feel hurt, I am sorry. But I have come here to be a champion. There’s a very interesting project in Paris. I have friends here, I’m a man who loves challenges.”

Alves will link up with compatriots Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Lucas Moura at PSG and he wants to pass on his experience in the Champions League to his teammates, having won it three times with Barca.

“I’ve had the pleasure of winning the Champions League three times and I want to bring my experience here.

“The President had a great power of persuasion. I like to make history. We can write it together here. The work that the club has been doing over the past several years is very encouraging. It’s an ambitious team.”
