Brazilian defender Dante Bomfim has admitted that he still finds it difficult to recall the memory of Brazil’s 7-1 World Cup semi-final defeat, three years on. Today marks the third anniversary of the fateful game.

Brazil, the hosts on this occasion, were thrashed 7-1 and Dante, who played in place of the suspended Thiago Silva, admits he is still not over it, telling CNN, “That defeat was very, very painful. Yes, it’s been hard to get over it.”

Dante, who now plays at Ligue 1 club Nice, has not been selected to play for his country since, “Some people tried to oppress us after that game. But that’s the way it is, and in the football world you always need to pick yourself back up and keep working.”

The match proved to be the heaviest defeat ever incurred in a World Cup semi-final and matched Brazil’s record defeat, a 6-0 reverse to Uruguay in 1920.
