Liverpool Attacker Philippe Coutinho says he would like to stay at Liverpool and try to become a club legend rather than move to Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich and become ‘just another player.’

Coutinho has been continuously linked with Barca, despite signing a new Liverpool contract in January. The Reds qualified for the Champions League preliminary rounds after a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough at Anfield on Sunday.

Coutinho says he is not looking to leave the club any time soon, “Stay here and they will end up building a statue in your honour. Go somewhere else, to Barcelona, to Bayern Munich, to Real Madrid, and you will be just another player. Here you can be something more,” he told ESPN Brasil.

“I have a long contract with Liverpool,” Coutinho added. “Speculation is for journalists only. We started the season very well, I started well. But then in the middle the performance regressed. Then we bounced back, I finished the season at a high level.

“The whole team is playing well, today was a very important victory, next season it’s the Champions League,” the Brazilian concluded. Coutinho has been selected for Brazil’s June friendlies against Australia and Argentina in Melbourne.
