Tite happy to recall “Champion” David Luiz after “strong year” with Chelsea
Brazil boss Tite hailed David Luiz’s recent form after recalling him to the national squad for June friendlies against Argentina and Australia in Melbourne. The 30 year old is in the team with Marquinhos rested.
With Brazil already qualified for the World Cup, Tite is assessing some of his fringe players in the June friendlies, “David Luiz is a champion of England, he had a strong year. Yes, he deserves this comeback to the Seleção.
When questioned on whether Tite would consider a back 3, a system Luiz has flourished in for his club this season, Tite responded, “Excellent question. Like Bielsa said, David is polyvalent and versatile. He is a player first and a position second.”
Tite also called Juventus left-back Alex Sandro to the squad with Marcelo rested, “Alex Sandro is having an excellent season at Juventus and is in the final of the Champions League. He deserves this opportunity.”
Tite also dismissed the idea that any game with Argentina, who Brazil defeated 3-0 in qualifying in Belo Horizonte in November, could be classed as a friendly, “There is no friendly with Argentina. Facing Argentina is a championship on its own. I'd be hypocritical to deny this.
“I am always trying to reinvent myself by watching games, contacting coaches, doing footballing activities. I have been through more than one thousand games and I consider this number to be very little. Learning never stops.”
