Dani Alves Admits to Mixed Feelings on Winning Return to Nou Camp
Juventus right-back Dani Alves has admitted to mixed feelings, after his new team secured qualification for the Champions League semi-finals. Juve defeated Barcelona 3-0 in Turin last week and completed the job with a 0-0 draw at the Nou Camp last night.
Alves spent 8 years with Barcelona, winning six La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues and 4 Copa del Reyes, before leaving for Turin last summer. He confessed to feeling a little sorry for his former teammates after Juve’s progression.
“It is inevitable that you do not have the feeling (when facing Barcelona), but you have to help your teammates and do their job," he told Esporte Interativo. "To qualify today is to eliminate the best team in the world,” he said.
“On so many occasions they have won, it is a team that has so many stars. This made the tie a bit more difficult.” With Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Monaco also through, Alves would not be drawn on a preferred semi-final opponent.
“I believe that such a time arrives in the competition, it is difficult to choose an opponent, to find someone easy. I believe that all have great merit and the opponent we have to face, we will have to prepare very thoroughly.”
